July I think is our coldest month here in Nelson. Here in The Brook we have already had many frosts which usually leads to wonderful warm days, but lately we have had light frost in places with grey days, with a litlle of that cold winter wind, which makes for coming home and tucking up for the afternoon after a hot bowl of soup. This is the time of year I want to clear out of here for northern Australia my 1st choice or even Auckland would do I say to myself. But here I am still here sitting by my heat pump. Oh how I miss my pot belly stove. The things we give up for modern living... I do wonder today.....
It's quiet in the gardens at the moment and feels like we shouldn't be disturbing things too much. We are planning for the spring and a clean up has started in the potting shed to get going on the seed raising. After Kay Baxter and her teams visit a lot of planning is going into enriching our soils with the elements we need,so mostly we are going to do this by putting them into our compost and then into the soil which will make healthier plants and then we will be healthy. Yeh, no supplements. We will be running lots of workshops to show you all how to have ''Nutrient Dense Food".
Pruning Fruit Trees: Yes that is our big job to be done, so if anyone wants to come and help, do just turn up on Monday or Wednesday mornings or Sunday afternoon someone will be there and we'll get going on it. It's our one big job left to do but most people are hibinating.

Look at these for this time of year. If you want to know about Edible Flowers and Weeds
come along to gardens on Wednesday mornings at 10am and Ash will tell and show you what you can eat and make tea's from around the garden. It's a treasure-trove.
Oh we have a Facebook page run by Sally: The Brook Community Gardens. Take a look
Keep warm and start getting ready for the Spring
Sincerely
Helen
