Welcome to 2015. Yes it's well on the way and we have certainly been doing our best to keep thing alive with our try try summer.
Watering is my new name as I did it every day well almost except when we got the odd shower, but mostly it was a rush to keep things going. I had to give up on some as bugs arrived and once a day was just not enough for a lot of summer things.
When volunteers started returning we got stuck into clearing away collecting seeds making compost and generally tidying up. Gardens and surrounding areas are looking good again.

Potato Tower
First thing I have to report on is the Potatoes in the 'Potato Tower'
Here is is dismantled and the potatoes coming out.
We decided that we didn't get as much as expected and think that we made it too high as the wasn't many in the bottom half. We think it got too heavy.
Next year we will make it only 3 layers and see what happens.
We like trying new things as we learn more by making mistakes and fixing them so they work better and we get more food.
It was fun making it and learning a bit from the Aussies.

New Urban Garden Plot
Our New Project for this Year
This is an area that we are going to set up a garden like it is someones backyard. Ours!
We have a great team that come every Wednesday and on Wednesday we are going to
make new beds,
make a compost pile,
a worm farm,
grow fruit trees using the espaliered way.
build some verticle gardens,
have a seat here and there and make and play with it as it develops. It's going to be interesting how it turns out.

This is our first day clearing our URBAN GARDEN AREA
Apart from out enthusiasm for the new urban garden to teach young families and young people what they can do in their back yard, we have been planting up some winter vegs.
So far, we have leeks, rocket, pak choy, lettuce, radish, carrots, onion and some green manure to let some of the beds rest.
With all that I am off to my home land, do I mention it? Why not. Australia. It's time I went and I'll be leaving the gardens in the capable hands of the volunteers who turn up every week to keep the place as beautiful as it is and they all seem to love it as much as I do.
Take care and enjoy getting your gardens ready for winter.
