Welcome to our 1st day of Summer, I would not of known if google hadn't told me, as we here in Nelson had a chilly morning and have had a nice cool day. For gardeners that's the best. My 1st picture does show end of Spring and beginning of Summer at it's best I think. Today taking these pics I started thinning a tree and it felt so abundant, it was the most obvious sign of spring I saw.
Here's another sign: Here's Rogers Potato Stack on the left with the poppies dancing beside them. It is amazing they are still standing after all the winds we have had this last month. It's a bit higher and sprouting out the sides. Potatoes for Xmas?
OUR BOARD ROOM- It's the BEST
Last Saturday we had our yearly AGM and this is where we had it, some sat in the sun and others in the shade. It was a great AGM and a lovely shared meal before. I'm always amazed the beauty and variety of food that gathers together when we have a pot luck. Nature is providing well for us at this time of year. We had home made bread, salads, redish, vegie pie, corn fritters, and much more and mostly out of the garden. It was a lovely way to relax before we got into the nitty gritty of the paper work.
Best place I've ever had a meeting.
We made some changes to our deed and we have Stephen who has taken on the job of sorting out our finances and our paper work. It's so good to have things running smoothly with clear systems in place. Every trust needs a Stephen. There is a lot to do behind the scenes of the gardens.
We voted in two new trustees, Ash and Mark. Welcome and may you add variety and support to keeping the gardens a beautiful place to learn and be part of a good community.

NEXT YEAR: We have a few things happening, we will continue with our readings of our vegetables and there Brix levels, we are going to turn one of our areas into an URBAN GARDEN This will be to show new gardeners how to start up their new garden at home. More and more we will work towards teaching young families to grow their own food. In this area we will fence it off about the size of a small backyard, and in there we in 1 afternoon with their help will: dig 3 beds, make a compost pile and make a worm farm and then all sit down and share some food together. Watch out for this next February. This will be time to plant an autumn garden and have vegies for winter. If you get them growing before the cold, they will feed you all winter. | GREEN SHED is our volunteer shed where we keep a few tools, but it has been out of bounds for a couple of years due to sunken floor. It's about to get it's roof & floor replace and will save many of us having to run back to our big barn to get something we need. In front new gardens have already been planted, there is a new seat and some shade and we are going to put a gutter in and save the water for gardens near there. Already the gardens are so dry, but right now it's raining here. Yeh for RAIN!! I love rain! |
Here we have Sally's Back to Eden Garden
She is convinced that it's the best way to garden and results are looking good. Come down and have a look, all the gardens are pretty amazing at the moment, before it gets dry.
Remember VOLUNTEER DAYS ARE MONDAY & WEDNESDAY MORNINGS 9.30-12.30
We have lots of fun and we have a great team especially on Wednesday.
Kiosk: We still have some plants left and some liquid fertilizers.
Last Photo of SPRING
I have got so good at taking photos over the last year I can't stop. This is in the river beside the gardens and young ducks don't last long in The Brook, we seem to have too many dogs, cats, weka's, pukeko's and humans who seem to love to kill them. So enjoy photo of the adults.
It's pretty low at the moment and it's a hard task for me to walk across, but it's still raining, so hopefully no water restrictions and the slim on rocks will be washed away.

Enjoy your gardening and remember you are always welcome to come and ask for help. We have had many young travellers volunteering this Spring and it's just lovely to see them so keen and willing to get into the dirt.
I did say last month most of the work is over, but no I was wrong, it never is, but I have to admit that this week we seem to be able to go slower and have a bit more stand around and talk about things. Oh what good job I have.
Enjoy your holiday season and may we have enough rain to keep the gardens growing over summer.
Sincerely\Helen Lynch
